Graphite electrode refers to a kind of high-temperature graphite conductive material made of petroleum coke and asphalt coke as aggregate and coal asphalt as binder through raw material calcination, crushing and grinding, batching, mixing, molding, roasting, impregnation, graphitization and mechanical processing, which is called artificial graphite electrode (referred to as graphite electrode).
Graphite electrode is mainly made of petroleum coke, needle coke as raw materials, coal asphalt as a bond, calcined, mixed kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization, machining and made, is in the arc furnace in the form of electric arc release electric energy to heat and melt the charge of the conductor, according to its quality indicators, can be divided into ordinary power graphite electrode, high power graphite electrode and ultra-high power graphite electrode.
The main raw material of graphite electrode production is petroleum coke, ordinary power graphite electrode can add a small amount of asphalt coke, petroleum coke and asphalt coke sulfur content can not exceed 0.5%. The production of high power or ultra high power graphite electrodes also need to add needle coke. The main raw material for aluminum anode production is petroleum coke, and the sulfur content is controlled not more than 1.5% ~ 2%, petroleum coke and asphalt coke should meet the relevant national quality standards.
(1) For electric arc steelmaking furnace
Electric furnace steelmaking is a large user of graphite electrodes. The output of electric furnace steel in China accounts for about 18% of the output of crude steel, and the graphite electrode used in steelmaking accounts for 70% to 80% of the total amount of graphite electrode. Electric furnace steelmaking is the use of graphite electrode to introduce current into the furnace, the use of electric extreme between the electric electrode and the charge caused by the high temperature heat source to smelt.
(2) For mineral heating electric furnace
Mineral thermal electric furnace is mainly used for the production of industrial silicon and yellow phosphorus, etc., which is characterized by the lower part of the conductive electrode buried in the charge, forming an arc in the charge layer, and using the heat energy emitted by the resistance of the charge itself to heat the charge, which requires a higher current density of mineral thermal electric furnace requires graphite electrodes, such as the production of 1t silicon requires the consumption of graphite electrodes about 100kg, About 40kg of graphite electrodes are consumed for every 1t of yellow phosphorus produced.
(3) For resistance furnaces
Production of graphite products graphitization furnace, melting glass furnace and production of silicon carbide with the electric furnace are resistance furnaces, the furnace loaded material is both heating resistance and heated objects, usually, conductive graphite electrode embedded in the resistance furnace end of the furnace head wall, used here for graphite electrode discontinuous consumption.
(4) For the preparation of special-shaped graphite products
The blank of graphite electrode is also used for processing into various kinds of crucible, mold, boat and heating body and other special-shaped graphite products. For example, in the quartz glass industry, 10t of graphite electrode blank is required for every 1t of electric melting tube produced; For every 1t quartz brick produced, 100kg of graphite electrode blank is consumed.
